Perry is a Chicago native she was born into Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as shown in flashback) her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's first TV roles. Fearing stress, her parents did not want to see the actress pursue acting until she turned age 18. Perry, who was too timid to perform in the school, began performing in theater classes at Northwestern University because she wanted to make new acquaintances. Perry made her debut as an actress in New York after graduation, getting small role on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. However, the feeling of homelessness made Perry return to California and find work as a theater actress. In 2013, she was a part of The Other Place on Broadway along with her mother. In 2015, she performed with her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning film Anna Christie at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. In the year 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family. In 2017, she had a minor role on ABC's thriller about politics Scandal that starred her father. In the same year, the actress was selected to play the younger character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again playing a young character of her mom's role. The role was offered to her in an audition that was open despite being a fan of this role.
